Remembering Daniel Perelman

On behalf of the larger Willard community, the Executive Board is incredibly saddened to hear about the passing of Daniel Perelman. His presence in Willard was an important one, and his loss will be felt throughout the community. Daniel was a passionate and supportive friend to many, known for his love of philosophy and, of course, Kanye West. He was also a student in the Integrated Science Program and communication chair of Northwestern’s Aviation Club.

We hope to be able to provide his friends and the Willard community with support in the wake of this immense loss. Tomorrow evening (May 31), Northwestern will hold a space for community gathering from 6 to 7 p.m. in B72 facilitated by staff from CAPS and Religious & Spiritual Life. All are welcome to attend.

Grief impacts us all in different ways, but there are a variety of University resources available for you, and we encourage you to reach out if you are in need of support. Students can contact Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at 847-491-2151, the Dean of Students Office at 847-491-8430 or the Residential Life staff in their building. Free, virtual mental health support also is available for all students through the TimelyCare app. Students, faculty and staff can connect with Religious & Spiritual Life, as well as Northwestern Hillel, and staff have access to benefits through the Employee Assistance Program.

If there is anything further Willard can do to lend support to the community as we all grapple with this grief, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Matthew Zellner (matthewzellner2013@u.northwestern.edu), John Jaso (john.jaso@northwestern.edu), or a member of Willard Exec.
